HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A 44-year-old woman was critically injured in a crash in Haiku on Halloween morning, Maui police said.
It happened just before 6 a.m. on West Kuiaha Road.
A preliminary investigation found that a Kia Sorento was heading southbound when it veered off the roadway, struck a fence and overturned.
Police said Good Samaritans extricated two people — the 44-year-old woman, who was the driver, and a 2-year-old girl — from the vehicle.
The woman was unresponsive and transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.
The toddler was not injured, police said.
MPD is still investigating whether speed, alcohol and drugs were factors.
